Look at leading daily life in fragments
of 8 - 8 - 8
Life should be looked
in the fragments of 8 + 8 + 8. Of our day, 8 hours should be kept for
honest, ethical work, 8 hours for family, friends and personal health, and the
balance 8 hours for sound sleep and rest.
Present Day in 21st Century is the time of fancier houses but broken homes, double incomes couples but more divorces, high-rise buildings but low-rise character, reaching the moon but not crossing the road to meet the new neighbour, today is the time of big showrooms but nothing in the store.
Today’s newspapers are filled with reports of crime, from Page 1 to the last page, white Crimes, grey crimes, black crimes. What a man ought to be, is given in our scriptures.

What a man is today
is what our newspapers tell us? Why? Why, let us ask, with modern
education, advanced media and communication systems, why are
crimes increasing day by day? Academies are giving best education
but turning out less humans.
Mankind is losing
values every day. Illiterates engage in small thefts of amounts in
hundreds. The educated are engaged in thefts of one lakh crores. Ethics, Morality and Spirituality seem to have lost ground.
In this background, the “8+8+8” system can work. Firstly we need to do 8 hours of honest ethical hard work. The Bhagwat Gita says, we should combine all three, “Karma Yoga”, “Gyan-Yoga” and “Bhakti-Yoga.” Doing work is only 33%. Let us look at how to do this and what thought process we should have, how to offer our work to divine power, how to get detached and work otherwise. We are just doing donkey-labour at our office.
In India we have 540 million young people in the age group of 15 to 40 years. Even if they do honest ethical work for 4 hours a day, India can become Super Power by 2020. We should work with Pride. Even when you sweep the floor, do it like Michaelangelo.

Take the example of
an aeroplane. When it is on the ground, each of its parts has less or more
value but when it is 40,000 feet high, even a small screw has high value,
equal to that of an engine or any other part. So, we should always live at a
higher level, ethically, morally and spiritually.
Let us take the example of Google whose 300 topmost brand executives met for a brainstorming session for three days, not to increase sales but to develop a message for their workforce. They finally arrived at one sentence message: “Don't Do Any Evil”. A corporate that is not doing honest, ethical work can come down like Satyam did. Almost 99.99% people are doing labour, not Karma.
As a second step, after 8 hours of honest ethical work, we should offer 8 hours to the Divine. From 9 to 6, we should work with detached attachment. After 6, we should tell to ourselves, “I am a soul.” Many of us are busy on our mobiles even at 11.45 pm. Great persons of our times like Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet never take a call after 6 pm. We can try and confirm that if we wish.

According to Warren
Buffet’s wife, in last more than 50 years of their married life, they have not
missed a single day of their evening walk.
Have you heard about
the Australian nurse who wrote a book after interviewing hundreds of terminally
Ill patients? She asked them to fill up a form and according to her findings,
most of the dying people had Five Major Regrets of their Life. One of
them was “Why did I work so much? For whom I worked so much? Extra work
was lying as extra money in the Banks or as an investment. Un-thoughtful
donkey-labour.
If you take your work as hobby, you never get tired. Examples exist of Newton, Einstein, Vallabhbhai Patel. If you do such detached work, you will not require any sleeping pills.
In 8 hours of sleep
and rest, we should be in the conscious state of not worrying about past
or future. Live a moment at a time. 90% diseases are psychosomatic. We suffer
because our mind is not stable. We are always in the state of worry. We should
always remember 3 H’s, Health, Hygiene and Hobby and the 3 F’s: Family,
Friends and Faith.
FAITH in God is a must. If we just realize the energy, we can experience God within us. In last 15 to 25 years, lots of research has been done in area of Social Relations, Health and Management. Even doctors first write “Rx” meaning “Thou take care”, before they prescribe any medicine. When the question of Faith in God comes, we should never ask or doubt about fundamentals. In cricket, have we ever asked “Why there are only 3 Stumps and not 4? Or when you get a cup of Ice cream, do you ask whether the milk used is of buffalo or cow? So enjoy the fruits.
Even top British Management gurus and professionals have confirmed that faith is advantageous and beneficial. These were highlights of Swami Gyanvatsalji’s discourse on the 8 + 8 + 8 principle on Saturday, 18th July, 2015 at Hotel Tansha Regency in Baroda organized by Indian Plastic Institute. It was indeed a life-enriching event

That was a good read. But living life with this principle of 8+8+8 is very very tough in today's time. Everything that you do demands so much, people hardly get time for family, friends and for themselves off course. In any case, I feel if you try to follow either one of the 8s, one shall definitely feel a change. Yes, a positive change for good :-)
